I generally use Verbatim -R, but bought some Fuji today on sale. I am wondering if 1) Is Verbatim clearly better? and 2) Is Fuji any good at all?

Can someone let me know. I'm very curious.

    Thanks!!!!

"Fuji -R" doesn't define the manufactuer.

At any time, the same label can contain multiple disc manufacturers.

See top of that link for ID programs.

I've bought Fuji DVD-Rs MIJ and I have been very happy with him. I am hesitant to buy the MIT, however.

If they are marked "Made in Japan" you should be safe.

FUJI brand DVD-R discs that say MADE IN JAPAN on the package have been, historically speaking, made by Taiyo Yuden and Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs are pretty much universally regarded as the BEST of the DVD-R discs on the market.

However many packages of FUJI DVD-R discs say MADE IN TAIWAN and these are not the famed Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs and as such are to be avoided.

Finding packages of FUJI DVD-R discs that say MADE IN JAPAN can be a "trick" these days as most seem to say MADE IN TAIWAN.

I suggest you just buy Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs direct. There are a variety of on-line stores that sell Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs with the most popular being RIMA.COM

    P.S.
Most DVD-R discs that are MADE IN TAIWAN are utter crap or at the very least not even remotely as good as those made in Japan ala Taiyo Yuden. However, right now, the Verbatim DVD-R discs, which are MADE IN TAIWAN, are the best of such discs and seem to be nearly as good as Taiyo Yuden DVD-R discs.

  6. I have really liked the Fuji 8x MIJ media I have purchased in the past - especially the +R's that id as YUDEN000T02. The -R TYG02 media is a very good choice as well. I purchased one cakebox of the -R MIT Fuji's on sale at Bestbuy sometime ago as an experiment. They identified as FUJIFILM03 and I would not recommend them at all. They were not horrible but not something I would trust for anything important. I found scans produced rather high PIE spikes around the 3-3.5gb regions. My tests were with a Pioneer 108 and a Nec 3550. Different burners and different firmwares may yield very different results.

I know Bestbuy has Fuji 25 count cakeboxes on special this week for $7.99 each (roughly $32 per 100 excluding tax). My local bestbuy had about 1 MIJ spindle for every 5 I checked. I went with the Verbatim MCC004's instead - my NEC 3550 and my LG 4167 really like those and they were cheaper.

Last Taiwanese DVD-R 16x discs I saw were PRODISC media. As usual, most of them burned fine, but you still have a coaster count (2ND class media).

I looked and these are made in Taiwan. I checked Nero's info tool and all I get is "Fujifilm" for info.

Once upon a time I had a free program that would give very detailed info on a blank dvd, but I lost it in a computer crash and cannot remember the name. Could someone provide a few clues???? I'm sure there are lots of them, but this one I really liked.

I've had no problems with the Prodisc Fujis. But the new FujiFilm coded media I find to be very hit and miss. One batch in particular yielded far too many coasters. Stick to the Prodisc Fujis. They're more reliable.

What is it about discs that are made in Taiwan that makes them of lower quality?
