  1. I've got this weird problem when playing a XviD encoded movie I got from a friend. He can view it with no problems.

I really don't have a clue. VirtualDub gives me an error in decompressing frames, while the movie actually plays in WMP
but yhe image looks damn weird (see pictures)

I already installed the latest XviD codec and the problem remains the same.

AVI codec details about the file:
    File : 698 MB (698 MB), duration: 1:52:57, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 42 %
    Video : 653 MB, 808 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 692*448 (4:3), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
    Audio : 45 MB, 56 Kbps, 24000 Hz, 1 channels, 0x55 = Lame MP3, Supported

The intro, this should be a circle...

And here we should see a man standing...

I don't know if this is the right place, I hope it
Any hint or tips are welcome, since I really need this file, as it is part of a course we're following.

    tnx!

    Well it works!

Many thanks man! Although I still wonder what's rotten with my 'normal' installed XviD codec, anyway it's working

  4. Try going to the Xvid decoder config and changing the Output Colourspace setting.

  5. Hi-

The problem initially was that the width is only Mod4 (divisible by 4), whereas it should be at least Mod8 and better would be Mod16. A lot of graphics cards can't handle Mod4 resolutions well and produce output like your pictures. Also, the original encoder was an idiot, because in addition to making that rookie mistake, he most likely didn't resize properly, as it's 1.54:1, and probably doesn't play with correct Aspect Ratio. My guess is that circle is an oval, even after VLC plays it properly. The resolution is too high for decent quality, and no self-respecting encoder would give it that audio.

  6. Well I have to admit, the video quality is idd very poor, and so is the audio.
But I don't really care, it needed to fit on one CD and it's just a guy talking on a stage, so I don't really need good video or audio quality like you would for a movie...
In fact, the audio quality is just fine for just a voice

He probably used some shitty program
