I have tried the sound cand on the mother board and installed a direct card

The line in is activated and the sound from the vhs tape is clean and volume controlled .

I have 3 different capture programs , all show the picture and sound is working

Press capture and all looks good.

try and play back and always no sound. not a bip

The small windows program sound recorder will record the sound
    but no capture program

What have I done wrong ?

  2. And the Windows RECORD Mixer has the Line-In checked?
Can you record the Line-In with an audio application and have it work?

It all depends on what hardware/software you are using. There are preferences/options/settings in various softwares where you have to select where to capture the sound from. Lets start by you telling us what hardware/software you are trying to use?

the sound is direct from the vhhs recorder to the cound card line in
the sound card is set to line is and the sound is coming in OK
the captuer programs (3) all do the same capture the video and not the sound , yet the sound is in the preview screen as is the video

I can capture the sound from the vhs via the windows record small program

this is nuts as it worked before the crash of windows

  6. If nothing in hardware is broken then it has to be the Windows mixer not letting you use the line in.
Try opening the Windows mixer with the Record window open and start your recording application and see if it switches to another input.
