  1. I'm trying to encode a vcd file to avi using the default xvid 1 pass compression rate, anyways I have a 9800 aiw, 1 gig of ram, 1.9 ghz, have the process as high priority, not using the comp at all during the encode and yet its only doing 70-80 fps ? Why is this ?

  2. Hi-

If you did your resizing and any other filtering in VDub, then you have to use Full Processing, and that'll slow you down quite a bit. Also, your XviD settings can affect the encoding speed. Why, what kind of FPS were you expecting? Doesn't sound slow to me?

70-80 fps seems very fast to me, doing mpg to XviD encoding...

What kind of frame rate did you expect? That doesn't sound out of line depending on what frame size and other settings you're using.

There's not much point in running at high priority. It simply makes the computer unusable and doesn't increase rendering rate by any significant amount. I almost always run at idle priority and use the computer for light tasks like web browsing while encoding (like right now). If you're not doing anything else with the computer, a process running at idle priority will get just as much CPU time as it would at high priority.
