Hacks are hidden software routine created by non-major brand DVD player.
Sony palyers will not go multi-region, or even play burned DVD. They took the same approach to Mp3 music. That's why IPOD win.
These approaches tick customers off, and abandoned Sony. Sony loses customer and money big time.
Sony appionted an English man as CEO to dig themselves out. -

Many of Sony dvd players are very restriced on what they can played. There are a lot people bought earlier sony players by its brand, and find out they need to buy another player.
Sony starts to ship players can play burned DVD, because Sony starts to make miniDVD cam. But the fact, Sony has Sony studio inetrest as top priority for years is a published fact ( see Fortune magazine ).
The DVD blanks is now cheaper than CD blanks, kind of put the writing on the wall.
Sony and Panasonics belive too much of themselves, for too long. But they can't stop consumers showing their dis-approval with their purchases.
