I have seperate vob files from various sources in Pal and NTSC in different resolutions and bitrate. They are all pretty small in size so instead of using a 4.3 dvd for a 1gig vob, I wanted to know how I can author all the different vobs into 1 dvd. I read you couldn't do this because it will mess up during playback from all the different sources the files are from.

So my question, is there a program that specifies in this area? Like an easy tool that will let you add all the vobs you want to make a DVD out of and author it?

you could try some all-in-one crap tool like divxtodvd, winavi, etc. the video will be reconverted to same video standard. will probably look like crap.

or make a non compliant dvd with mixed pal and ntsc using for example dvd-lab pro, no video converting required but the dvd may not work in all dvd players.

Technically, PAL and NTSC cannot be authored to the same disc and remain compliant. Practically, it can be done with DVD Lab Pro and possibly DVD Shrink in reauthor mode (no menus). The disc may not play on all players, and probably won't play on most NTSC players.

I saw a discussion about this in one of the forums here a few weeks ago. One guy said he did it with DVD Lab Pro. He made a main menu in NTSC and it had 2 choices. One went to an NTSC version of a video and the other went to the PAL version of the same video. guns1inger is, of course, correct that such discs are not compliant but I suspect that most players probably will play such a disc, even NTSC players.

  5. i havent tried a mixed dvd, yet...but i will say this, BOTH the dvd players ive tried my one PAL dvd on...have played the dvd...flawlessly. I don't THINK that my phillips DVP-642 would stumble with that type of authoring, as for the other one....well, im not entirely sure, that one may choke on it......i guess you can give it a run and see if it works for you or not...if not, you will have to re-encode.....

For a test I used 4 VOB files, 2 NTSC & 2 PAL each with different resolutions. With DVDPatcher, I set the header for all the VOBs the same to trick TDA to accept the mixed VOBs. (NTSC 720x480, 29.97fps, 8.0 Mbit, and First header only)

Authored a DVD with TDA, all files on 1 track, and it played on both players that play both formats. There was a 1 sec glitch between files with different res.
