    i was looking at portable vcdplayers and i can apon this vcdplayer that says its dvcd compatible. and i'm wondering whats that. I've never herd of it before, so can someone tell me what it is?

    It's either mini-dvd or high defenition VCD.

  3. @Greg 12: It is neither.

    A DVCD uses standard VCD compliant MPEG files. It manages to fit more video in (according to hype, up to 120 min but I have never heard of a real "DVCD" disc much more than 90 min) by a stamping trick -- the spiral track of the CD is stamped tighter to fit in more data.

    In a way, burning VCDs onto 90/99 min media could constitute "DVCD" though nobody calls it this of course.

    The last several posts on "DVCD" involved the same question. If you search the forums for "DVCD" you will find those posts. Some of those posts also had external links I believe.
