  1. Hi,

How fast do you burn your discs??

I usually burn mine at max speed. I've heard from the rumor mill that burning CD's and/or DVD's slower makes the disc last "Longer".

    Any truth to this?

    Thanks

That's a myth that has long since been dispelled.

    Hi,
"last longer" in itself that is a myth.... however.... for certain operations you don't want to burn to fast......
    1. music cd's.... you generally don't want to burn any faster than 8x... myself i use 4x... reason.. burning amusic cd at to high a rate... you will lose data bits and hense music quality is effected...
    2. although for data cd's... there doesn't seem to be any issue on how fast... if your using a good quality cd....
    3. cd's as far as longivity.... that depends on the quality of the cd... there basically 3 grades... poor, medium and good.. smile.... the poors they'll last a short time a couple of years maybe longer also you'll possibly have more reject when burning... wheras a good cd... will last many years and high rliabilty of a good burning. session.... a poor's will have a green tint on the writing area , agood cd will have a silver or gold tint on the writing sruface... (the tint is the result of the special films...
this link goes into details of why and who are the good cd's ....

  4. i can testify to this one.......at least with some REALLY old video game systems (think sega cd and other systems that dont need modchips to play cdr.....) if you burn at too fast of speeds, the compatability can be affected, and discs can start skipping, fail to boot, ect.....so yes, there is definately at least some truth to burn speeds affecting discs.........generally for old games, such as what i was speaking of, i go with 8x, music cd's i go with 16x or so, data cd's i go with around 24x, and dvd's.....4x.......ive only burned a few dual layers and they were only 2.4x compatable, so obviously...........
