I use a Promise Ultra 133 TX2 PCI controller card in one of my computers for the DVD and CD drives and it works fine. But it is one of the few that does work with the slower 33Mhz and 66Mhz optical drives.

I found out about this problem when I couldn't get a DVD burner to work on a Highpoint Rocket ATA 133 PCI card. The TX2 is one alternative if you want to free up your motherboard ATA channels for hard drive use.
