  1. I just installed Nero, and all my video files now have nero icons even though they are associated with "Media Player Classic 6.4.8.7.exe"

    Have you tried right clicking on a video file and changing the default program that it opens with?

    Or you can change all filetypes by going into Tools>Folder Options>File Types. Or you can just change the icons there by clicking 'Advanced'.

    Dont you just hate it when that happens. It happened to me too (also with Nero). I had to manually change all the icons back.

    Open any explorer window, click on Tools, Folder Options, click on the File Types tab, and begin changing (associating) the file types by clicking on the Change button.

    EDIT: just noticed Redwudz has already mentioned it.

    Hi Signedupguest;

    Both Waheed and Redwudz beat me to the punch, so I'll just fill in the details a little.

    Sometimes just changing the "default app" association doesn't fix the icon (I just went through this going from VLC media player on some files it refused to correctly play, darn the luck!).

    If the icon is STILL wrong even after you've associated it with a new application, I'd try the "advanced" button under "tools/folder options" (you'll need to "restore" to the original application before the "advanced" button shows up). Then, "change icon" and "browse". Here's where you have to think ahead a little - unless you know which folder has the icon you want (the correct one for the application you WANT to associate the file type with), you first need to find it and either write it down or save it's address in clipboard (easiest way there is just to find an unmodified "correct" icon for the desired application, go into the "browse" as above and ctrl-c the thing's address into the clipboard).

    Anyway, once you've got the right folder address entered into the "browse" window, you'll see another window illustrating every icon in that folder. Click on the one you want and you're there. Finally, go ahead and re-associate the file type with the desired application so windows will always open the file type with the correct handler AND display the correct icon.

    Good luck!

    Hope these instructions weren't too hard to follow!
    All the best,
    Morse

    Hold SHIFT key, right click on movie file, go to OPEN WITH (if XP, go to the sub option "choose program"). Then select the program, and tick the box to "always use" that software to open the file.

    Easy.

    exactly as he said they're still associated w/ media player classic. this is one of those times where windows likes to be difficult. as you go through the list you'll discover nero has changed a LOT of them.
