I'm trying to install video codecs (XVID), and I get "Unable to register DLL/OCX". I've had various versions of the klmcodec packacges installed for a number of years, and now I'm getting the message also when I try to install any video codec. Is something corrupt in the registry and is there a fix for it?

    Thanks.

Codec packages = bad news. For this very reason. often they clash, if not internally then with other things you may need to install later.

I would uninstall the codec pack(s) completely, then use Codec Sniper to cleanup what's left. Then download the latest (2.52) beta of G-Spot and use this to determine what codecs you do need, and install just the official versions of these.

I tried and it didn't work. Did a lot of research on the web but didn't find anything that corrected my problem. End result? - You guessed it - formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows. Bummer.

Fixes a heck of a lot of problems and "freshens" things up though. IMHO it's a good idea to reformat every 6-12 months just to keep things at their most efficient.
    If in doubt, Google it.
