What is the best way to convert 1920x1808i .ts mpeg transport stream to HD XVID (DivX)? I've tried AutoGK, but it didn't work - AutoGK did not properly cropped the stream.
Tried regular Gordian Knot - got interlaced file.
Any suggestions?
TIA.

Have you tried virtualdubmod???? Use something like hdtv2mpeg and load the mpeg into virutualdubmod. Then you can make a xvid or divx out of it.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

I've only deinterlaced a few times. Virtualdub and its offshoots have a built in deinterlace filter. Just load that before you convert.

Hi-
AutoGK did not properly cropped the stream.
what do you mean by that? It left behind some of the black bars? You can fix that in the Hidden Options. Or do you mean something else, like you don't like the way it resized? Do you still have the log for that "bad" AutoGK encode?

Do you know the difference between IVTC and deinterlacing? Is this from a true interlaced source, or has it been pulled down? If you don't know the answers to those questions, then I suggest you go back to AutoGK? -
Hi-
One reason I asked for the AutoGK log is that it analyzes the source and then decides what to do. It would tell you if it were truly interlaced and had to be deinterlaced, or if it was telecined film and only had to be IVTC'd. Forgive me, but I don't trust your analysis. It could very well be interlaced, but I'm not sure you know how to tell the difference between interlaced video and telecined film.
In any event, the best deinterlacer in GKnot is KernelDeint. In the Save And Encode box, under Field Operations, tick Kernel Deinterlace.
I still recommend going back to AutoGK. In Hidden Options (Ctrl-F9), there are a number of ways to get rid of the black. First I'd increase the threshold and have it examine more frames. If that doesn't work, then I would crop additionally after AutoCrop:
- Sometimes auto crop used with default parameters by AutoGK cannot totally remove black bars or removes too much of a movie material. In this case "Tune auto crop parameters" is very handy. Threshold defines how sensitive auto crop will be: the higher the value the more cropping will be done. To completely disable audio crop you can set threshold to 0. "Number of frames to examine" is useful parameter to change if movie is a mixture of full screen/wide screen shots, so by selecting different frames that auto crop examines you can improve cropping process. "Starting frame" can help auto crop in situation when you have a full screen logo as a part of widescreen movie, in which case autocrop might decide that the whole source is full screen. By selecting a different starting frames you force auto crop not to examine irrelevant starting movie sequence. "Force cropping" option allows you to crop additional pixels after autocrop operation (if you find that you need to always crop several more pixels you can use this option). If you disable autocrop with threshold 0 then "force cropping" option becomes fully manual crop. Remember always to check how movie looks like after you set new auto crop parameters using Preview function of AutoGK.
