    Hi all, just wondered if someone could explain (very basically of course) the difference between using the DVDShrink option as opposed to clicking on the AutoFit option ?

    Do they do completely different things, or is it just that DVDShrink is setup to handle this kind of operation...

    Thanks,

  2. "Autofit" is meant to result in a standard single layer DVD size, but (for many file related reasons) this doesn't always happen. Shrink is meant to take over on a slightly oversize result and give you a burnable file size.

    Reading the above makes me assume they do the same thing then... Autofit makes sure the resulting file size is always burnable to a single layer dvd, Shrink does the same ?

    Clicking Autofit has ALWAYS resulted in a burnable standard single layer dvd...for me..

  4. They do the same thing, but for different reasons and by a different process.

    I also have never needed to use the Shrink step, but I'm glad it's there.

    With dvd's costing so little I prefer to check the DL to create a larger file. Then if necessary I split the movie onto two disks with Shrink. Believe the quality of the picture is better.

    I have been using HDTV2DVD (on a single movie) and the AutoFit button works great. I just got S2D because I wanted the option of putting more than one movie on a disk but after adding two mpg movies (assets) the size ends up being about 5GB and the AutoFit button is still grayed out. Shouldn't AutoFit be available in this situation.

    I have found out that for some reason SVCD2DVD doesn't seem to want to AutoFit MPGs. I put together the same project but used TS files instead and the AutoFit was able to do it's thing.

    Normal (Progran Stream) mpegs are not reencoded so the autofit function is not applicable. HDTV mpegs (Transport streams) are reencoded and so the autofit function IS available.
    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.
