  1. Since I'm on dialup I sometimes lose my connection on a video download. With sites like Rapidshare you can't use a download manager so the file can't be resumed. Is there a program that would allow me to view incomplete video files like mpegs, wmv's and so on? Thanks.

If you pay for a subscription to Rapidshare you can use a download manager

AVIPreview is good for incomplete AVIs, but I don't know of any equivalent products fro WMV or MPEG.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. For the cost of subscribing to Rapidshare you might as well get DSL. It isn't worth it.

VLC media player can do the job just fine.

The software is free at www.videolan.org

Well how much are you paying for Dial-Up?!?!?!?!
Shit!! you can get DSL for like 14.95 a month!!!!!!!!
Who the hell can afford Dial-up and not DSL nowadays!!!!!!

Anywho, if you have a video file DL that is incomplete, you can open it in various programs and change the extension from WE the incomplete DL ext. is to what format the original vid. was, IE: .mpg, .avi, ect. and view what you have gotten so far, i have done it a few times when i have waisted my time DLing something

I don't know how you can possibly expect to DL videos with dialup. It isn't worth it

Ahhhh well ..... whatever floats your boat I guess. It probably depends on how important these files are to you.

I subscribed for a month when I had in excess of 15GB that I just 'had' to DL from there, so a download manager was kinda required, and came in very useful. I then spent the rest of the month searching for stuff to DL from there
    If in doubt, Google it.

Back when there only was Dial-Up where i live, you did not have much choice!! A buddie of mine, his wife has worked for the phone company for like 18 years, and they live so far out in the boonies they still can't get DSL and was JUST able to get a hi speed cable connection for the first time like 3 months ago when the rest of the world around us have had it for 10 years and though they just finally ran cable near him, he had to pay extra and get a permit for them to run it down the road he lives on so he could get away from dial-up

No they're not (well not just for dialup, anyways) ... and no I don't.

I use it for it's scheduling capabilities, as my DL limit is split into Peak and Off-peak usage. That way I can load up a shitload of files and just tell it to DL between midnight and 7am, without me physically having to be up at that time, and it works the queues a lot better than trying to DL 15 things at once, and it has resume if there are dropouts.
    If in doubt, Google it.

See, since other services besides Dial-Up became availible where i live, i have never ued a DL manager, never had the problem with any dropouts or disconnects.

Although very rare that i have to DL something really large, i just start it before i go to bed and it's usually done when i get up.

    But Dude!!!!!! @ jacatone
Like i stated before.... i have seen AOL and other Dial-Up services costing $5.00+ more a month than high speed DSL

At $14.95 a month, how can you NOT have a high speed connection 8)

Unless your my buddie who lives in BFE

  10. OK, maybe the DSL statement wasn't the best. Just that so many people are using these free upload sites like Rapidshare these days that it doesn't pay to join all of them. I like dial up and only pay $5.00 a month for unlimited use. Hopefully, broadband will finally come down to that price someday.
