  1. Hi,

I have been converting regular dvds that were in full screen mode to mpeg.
And I output a full screen 352X240 mpeg.

Now I tried and the dvd seems to be widescreen
and noticed with those settings my 352X240 mpeg is creating a black border on the top and bottom of it....thus making the screen size smaller.

Is there any way to get this full screen 352X240 while keeping the quality?

I tried centering the movie keeps quality but the movie is missing 1/2 the picture.

Any better solution guys? Help thanks.
    thanks
    Steve

If the movie is widescreen then you can zoom in without loosing half the picture. As Baldrick says, you can crop (which will again loose you half the picture), but you will also have to resize, which will reduce quality.

Can you post a couple of screen shots explaining what you are trying to do, and with what ?

  4. Sorry forgot the tools.

This is what i do....use smartripper to rip the dvd

Then I use dvd2avi to get the audio.

Then in tmpgenc i use the .d2v and auido file to get my mpeg.
    352X240.

But it ends up looking more like 352X160 since the above and below of the video is black instead of having a full picture.

I think you mean cropping by choosing center movie?
This works but it zooms in on the movie and ends up loosing some of the surroundings. For example you loose the background and see a bigger version of the persons in it.

    thanks

How else can you do it ?

You have a choice with widescreen

    1. Black bars top and botton, and the whole image is visible.

    2. No black bars, but the image is stretched. While you can do this with less than D1, you can't tag it as 16:9, so everyone will look tall and thin when you play it back

    3. Zoom in and crop off the sides, or as you put it, losing some of the surroundings.

I'm not sure what you extepect to be able to get out of this.
