  1. Hi there! I tryed to burn a dvdr today, and it will not work! It gets stuck at 1% and wont work! I have used the media before, and I tryed other media and it still wouldnt work

I am able to burn a dvdrw with no problems! I have also tryed un-installing and installing the new nero, and no luck.

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do?

I have a very good idea on what you can do, having had a similar problem a few weeks ago with exactly the same model. You probably need to update the firmware. My understanding is that some DVD manufacturers have done something to their blank DVDs that is causing problems for this model where they can't identify the disc correctly and thus don't know that they should be able to burn it. A firmware update fixed my problem, which I had with Fuji DVD+R DL discs, by the way. I got my firmware from http://www.rpc1.org because I used the hacked region free version of the firmware.

  3. I upgraded to:
    1859_FW_ND-2510A_win218

    And it still doesnt work

Are there are any drivers which may work instead, or do you think its another problem?

The trouble is, I am just wasting discs all the time trying to test

OK, first of all, *always* try a different software before engaging in a firmware update; that's Rule #1.

If you were having a problem with a specific piece of software before, what happens when you try a different software to burn with? Finding the answer to that question often leads to the desired fix.

Now, having updated your firmware, we cannot begin to diagnose the initial problem, let alone the new one.

Step One now should be to revert to the firmware you had in the drive initially. I suggest you try the manufacturer's website to see what they may have, and see if you can downgrade your firmware to get back to square one.

Step Two is to try another buring program to see if CD-R/RW's burn fine, then try it on DVDR/RW's and see the result.

Post back when you've gotten that far and let us know.

    Cheers!

  6. I tested the new drivers with burnon cd/dvd burning software, and it worked ok (burning a cdrw) I am going to try dvdrw now! Then test dvdr, hmmmm its strange but maybe nero is the problem?

This is why we do diagnostics that way - to rule out a potential software issue.

Good for you, so far so good!

Hi thanks for your advice man! I never had problems with nero before, it always worked great so thats why I thought it wasnt due to that! if it is just nero, whats the best burning software other than nero?

its burned a dvdrw no problems

Glad to hear it worked, John_Jordan!

As to problems with Nero, trust me, at some point there's always something that interferes with the burning process, Nero isn't the only one.

As to the 'best software', that's a totally subjective topic. Basically go with what works, and if your favorite seems not to work, then it may be worthwhile to investigate whether that publisher has a new version that addresses some specific issue you might be having.

I wouldn't abandon Nero completely, of course, as I use it extensively myself!

    Cheers!

Go to the softtware publisher's website and look in their Support area to see if they have the reaso(s) behind that error.

Also, make sure you are trying this with a new disc, not one that failed previously, as there might have been a small amount of data that may have been put on the disc before it errored out, ok?

Post back and let us know!

    Cheers!

For what it's worth, I can't check right now, but I believe I upgraded my firmware to version 2.17 and the upgrade did fix my problem with Nero. If this is any help to you, my problem happened with Fuji discs. There's some area on the disc that identifies itself to the burner and my understanding is that my very old firmware could not correctly read this information. Your problem might be different, but I was hoping my suggestion would work for you.

One other thing to determine is what media you are using when trying yoour DVD burns, John_Jordan. Can you tell us what brand media you are using, and maybe also the Media ID sense code for the specific media?

I was wondering if you tried a completely different brand of media what your results might be. . .

    Kepp us posted!

    Cheers!

  16. Hi! For dvd I have tryed:
    Ridisc (Purple ones) 4x
    Ridisc (Move spindle discs) 4x

I would have gone and bought some other media, but the thing is, both of these medias worked ok before!

    cdr
    Datawrite
    discwrite

I looked to see if i could get the actual code for the discs, but they dont seem to be on there!

    Hope this helps abit

  17. Hey guys! I am back, and with no good news I havent found a solution for the problem!!

I am wondering if anyone has experience the same problem, and has actually figure it out?

OR anyone knows a forum, which my question is generally a common one IE a specific forum for dvdrw/cdrw drives etc?

Thanks again guys! I hope, I dont have to buy a new drive

Use better DVD MEDIA than RIDISC but I think it's RITEK. RITEK is not good quality dvd media. Try using VERBATIM or TAIYO YUDEN which can be sold under the brands of FUJI & SONY. By using those brands of media you can rule out whether or not your drive is just failing or if it's a software problem. Have you tried using IMGBURN to burn your dvds? I create ISO images then use IMGBURN to burn to dvd media.
