    Hi
I downloaded a video file of a tv episode, the audio is 384 kb/s (6 ch) CBR. The file plays fine in Windows Media Player, but using Tmpgenc to convert to dvd compliant I get no sound, using VirtualDub to extract an audio file I get an error no audio decompressor found to decompress. What should I be looking to install here, is it that obvious?

    My guess will be... Ac3filter

Use G-Spot (latest version) to identify it. If it is AC3, and you intend to convert to DVD then use virtualdub to demux the audio as AC3, convert just the video, then add the audio back during authoring.

Ok installed AC3 filter, got the first episode done ok, the second one has a audio of 448 kb/s (224/ch, stereo) CBR - when Im doing this in Tmpgenc all im getting is background sound, no talking etc - same when I run it through VDub. If I select demux from Vdub and add the ac3 file when authoring in Tmpgenc DVD Author will this sort it or is there an easier way?

That's a very high bitrate for 2 channel AC3. I would scan it with AC3fix, just to be sure it's OK. That type of bitrate is usually used for 5.1 - maybe you are only hearing the surround channels.

It plays fine in Windows Media Player, its only when Im trying to convert to dvd I get the problems, and yes it does sound like im only hearing surround sound, no main channels.
