I'm new to the forum. I have used a capture card to put some VHS family movies into MPEG2 files. I now want to edit these in Adobe Premiere 2. It is suggested that Premiere 2 works better with AVI and there are less potential problems (audio sync etc).

If I convert my MPEG2s to AVI will I lose any quality? If so does it matter what mb/sec rate was used? (I can capture anywhere from 2 to 12 mb/sec). Are some software converters better than others?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Depends on what kind of AVI. To uncompressed or huffyuv AVI, no loss.
    To DV AVI, little loss.
To DivX, XviD and other mpeg4 formats - big loss (if using normal bitrates).
