    Hi evryone:

I have 2 AVI files which I want to merge into 1 single file. Can it be done without losses (video & audio qualities)? If so, which software(s) should I use?

    Thanks

    VirtualDub can do it.

Virtualdub. Load the first one, append the second one. Note : both must be identical - same resolution, same formats, same bitrate (at least for audio). Should be able to save out under direct stream processing to get one big file. Can't guarantee that the audio will be in sync in the second half.

    Thank you

My problems with VirtualDub is that it always states that the codec is not supported.

Use either AVICodec or, better (IMO) GSpot v2.52 beta and post a screen shot here.

Looking at it a different way, what do you plan to do once you've joined the AVIs? If they're destined for DVD then there's no need to join them. Just encode them to MPEG and, during authoring, load up both MPEG's in the right order. Authoring will join them and is, typically, much more reliable than joining the AVIs.

Do you have a divx codec installed ?

Can you load the avi in windows media player ?

Also, I would update g-spot to the latest version (2.52 beta). It will make life easier down the track.

    Hi,

I don't think I have the codec installed. I will do that. However, my Windows Media Player plays the file, a little slow but watchable.

    Thanks everyone

I installed the codec and am now able to use VirtualDub for my AVI files.

The reason I want to join the 2 AVI files because they are of one single show. If I keep them separated and convert them to .vob, using DivXToDVD, there will be a short pause during playback (maybe 1 or 2 seconds) between these 2 .vob files.

    Thanks again for your help.
