I have this burner and when i make a backup of a movie it has been having problems playing in my dvd player and pc.

This is what i do to backup my movies:
I first tryed Anydvd and Clonedvd and that worked for my first backup no problem but i then started to have problems with those two programs so i looked over this site and found that alot of people were talking about dvdshrink and dvd decrypter so i tryed that. i then bring up dvd shrink and drag the file i want to burn over to the left and go to backup. then when the box comes up for that i go to select backup target and go to create ISO image file and burn with dvd decrypter and it goes through the encoding process then the analyis process then it burns the movie. it finishes the movie and the little sound comes up telling me its done. i have tryed this many different times writing it at the max speed all the way down to 1X but....

    I get this problem:
i go to put the movie in my pc to play it and see if it worked and it will be fine for the first 30 min or so then the movie starts to blur together and freezes. after about 20 seconds of it being frozen the screan goes blank and it says error unable to read disk. i then try to play it in my dvd player but i still get the same problems around the same part of the movie.

I had just got this burner last month and have went through many dvds. that parts ok cuz i know its going to take some time to get it correct but i was wondering what i was doing wrong and what can be done.

The blank dvds i have been using are Maxell dvd-r and i have tryed Maxell dvd+r. are these dvds garbage? and is it possible that i just got a bad spindle of dvds cuz i have had that problem with cd?

  2. Maxell(Made In Japan) are very good.
Have you tried updating the firmware? www.rpc1.org
Use Nero CD-DVD Speed to check discs for errors. If the discs show high errors(PIE= >180,PIF= >10) I would buy a new batch of DVD's,if that doesn't change then get a new drive.

Start with the read test. PI/PO is drive dependent and might not work with your drive.
