I have Sonic's CinePlayer v. 1.51 installed as my DVD player. My DVD drive is a Plextor 708A (http://www.plextor.com/english/products/708A.html). Windows 2000. Windows Media 9, no DVD playback codec.

When I insert a DVD movie I recently purchased in the drive, my computer crashes faster than I have ever seen. Bang, a Blue screen appears and within a second or two, the machine is completely dead!

The DVD in question is "Wide Screen." There was a "Security Device Enclosed" label pasted over the edge of the DVD case. The DVD plays just fine on an IBM 770 laptop I have, which has standard IBM DVD player software on it and a standard laptop "bay" DVD drive.

Other DVD presentations I have play fine in CinePlayer 1.51, except the sound "wobbles"sometimes. If I restart the DVD, the problem usually goes away.

Why does this particular DVD bring down my computer? Is CinePlayer 1.5 too old for the wide screen DVD? Should I uninstall reinstall CinePlayer? Is Cineplayer the problem?

    Sounds like a knackered OS.

  3. erm....id guess that the sticker means an anti shoplifter device or label was in the case, and the term"wide screen" means absolutly nothing at all.
either the software or the drive is crapping out,or like sacajaweeda mentions, your OS is kaput.
you could try something modern like powerdvd, and see if that works, otherwise get someone tech minded to look it over.
