hello there,
I need help for translating a subtitle from chinese to english , here is my problem, i had a chinese kung fu classic film which has only chinese (simplified subtitle) and i want it to translate the sub to english, i'm supposed to use subrip to rip out the subtitle and save it to (.txt) and then use software like systran premium 5.0 pro , a translator software to do translation. but unfortunately, subrip don't have character map in which to match the chinese letter . but then I search the net and then found one, this time is in (.srt). I'll open it to subtitle workshop, change the input from ANSI to chinese BIG5 to see the chinese word not the ANSI char. and then i save to (.txt) to load it to systran premium pro. and do translation , but when i open it from systran premium pro. the chinese text become ANSI character and cannot recognize by systan premium pro.. I know that I can translate from Subtitle workshop but the problem is in mannual way in which you need to translate every subtitle rows and what I need is to generate translation automatically and then save it to (.txt) and load it again to subtitle workshop and save it again to (.srt)......
Thanks a lot......

*Think* the problem might be in text format wanting to go back to ANSI when you do the save. I don't have anything to experiment with, so can only guess. Feeding SW a text file saved as unicode or BIG5? Trying to save in different text formats? Converting txt file to unicode or BIG5 after SW?
I've done this sort of thing with unicode, but have no idea re: Chinese char. -
