  1. Hi, well i've been talking to some professional film makers, and they've recomneded the Canon GL-1 or Sony PDX10. I've read a little on the Sony, it seems alright. But i'm looking for the best in under 1000

if anyone can help me i'd really appreciate it

    thanks

"The best" can only be decided upon when there are criteria and requirements by which to judge the candidates. In this case, there are no criteria or requirements.

What are you wanting to achieve?
    Under what conditions?
    etc.

There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

  3. I don't know if you've looked at the Pansonics, but the PV-GS400 is right around $1000 online and works well. Takes nice video and is fairly easy to use. I've had one for a couple months now and am happy.

The sony vx-2100 can be found for a little over a thousand and it is a super camcorder. I forget the web page. something like usaphotonation.com/products.asp I have a vx-2000 now and am about to get a 2100 as a second.

  5. I hate to burst your bubble but you're not going to get the "best professional camera" for $1,000 or less. That price range places your options at the bottom of the range of professional cameras. However, there are a lot of good cameras in that price range.

No reputable shop will sell a VX-2100 for just over $1,000. The VX-2100 and its professional sibling, the PD170, are both excellent cameras but they're definitely in the $2,000 and up range. I suggest that eveyone use Reseller Ratings or a similar site before making a large dollar purchase like this. http://www.resellerratings.com/seller8278.html

USA Photo Nation, as you can see, has a 6 month rating of .11 and a lifetime rating of .72. That not even a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10! It's also based 90 six months reviews and 293 lifetime reviews so their rating is not due to a lack of reviews.

    Caveat Emptor.

  7. You will not find a profesional level camera for $1000, but there are still some very good cameras around that range.

"professional film makers" doesn't say much about what you want to do. Tell us first what you are trying to do.

    home and travel videos?
    semi pro wedding videographer?
    event documentation?
    cable access?
    news stringer?
    video or film student?
Sundance wannabe "film"? (for large audience screening)

The PDX-10 is a minimum decent quality 3 CCD interlaced DVCAM camcorder but needs decent lighting. That is assumed if you are shooting film style so go for it. It's not the best for shooting in low light. We are assuming adequate key, fill and backlights.

All in all a great indie starter cam for that price. It has full 16:9 support. You will need to light your set same as any.

Most indie theaters will be able to project interlaced DV sources with no problem.
