  1. I have a HDR-HC1 Sony camera, and I'm trying to capture some footage with Vegas 6.0.

I've selected firewire as th device, but it just says no device available.

I've put the camera into VCR mode, I can't see any problems.

Anyone have any clue to why this is happening?

I have Vegas 6.0 ("a" and then also a "c" upgrade) and Sony HVR-Z1 and have the same problem. I simply cannot figure out why it's not being recognized in Vegas as a capture device when in HDV mode.

So the only stable solution for me is to use CapDVHS (free program) for capturing M2T HDV streams to a hard drive and then, when it's time to output back to camera, Vegas 6.0 works just fine. I would recommend you trying this method as well. CapDVHS is a very good capture program, just make sure that you have a dedicated hard drive for your video to avoid corrupted streams. I have no problems capturing hours of continuous native HDV to a USB2 enclosed Hitachi ATA Ultra-100 7200RPM hard drive connected to a Centrino laptop.

Also, Vegas timeline has absolutely no problems with CapDVHS captured M2T files. Premiere Pro with MainConcept HDV plugin likes those files too.

  3. I tried CAPDVHS, didn't work.

Does my firewire card need to be upgraded maybe to work with HD?

    havash,

I have HC1, WinXP SP2, and Vegas 6.0c. No problem here. Also CapDVHS works fine for me.

There is another free capture utility that works better than Vegas and CapDVHS.

    Look here:

    http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

It also can split during the capture, or you can split already captured file.

  5. Does the firewire card need to be HD compatible??

Or do all firewire cards work with HD cameras?

    havash,

It doesn't matter if it is DV or HDV. Make sure you have Windows XP SP2 and that FireWire card is OHCI Compliant (OHCI - Open Host Controller Interface).

  7. alright, I found out that I didn't have the drivers installed on my computer.

    It works fine now.

ANother question I have is how can I put the captured files into Adobe.

I've exported through Vegas to AVI, it says uncompressed, but I thought I'd ask here to make sure if anyone knows a better way.

    Thanks,
