I have just installed an extra IBM GXP75 45GB hard disk.
I will use it to capture from my satellite-receiver and convert it to VCD.
I use Avi_IO as capture tool.
I have done a lot af testing on my IBM GXP75 15GB disk without any problems.
My problem is I can't select any compression like huffyuv og Picvideo, and capture an avi-file on my new disk.
The captured avi-file is full of blinks and completly useless.
The only way I can get a good avi-file is to select no compression, but then I have a don't have enough free space.
Is my 45GB disc defect or am I doing anything wrong?
I have made a format, scandisc and defrag of the disc but nothing helped.
Any help will be great, because this is driving me crazy.
Regards
Henrik

1) Did you try Virtualdub/Huffy instead?
2) What formatting did you do on the new drive?
3) Do other files read/write from the disk?
4) Try capturing to your OS drive (just for the heck of it). Same problem?
5) If you get SOMETHING out of your Huffy capture, you might just want to check which options you're using on Huffy (I typically use the default).
If #3 and #4 are the case, re-install the latest Huffy codec. #2 is something to check out, #1 and #5 are just suggestions on what works for me.
I happen to have an IBM GXP-something 60GB drive, works like a charm... formatted NTFS, and I'm able to capture nicely to it.
oh, and maybe...
6) Can you elaborate on what you mean by "blinks"? Frame drops? Scanlines?...

clip.
Yes, It have the same problem.
Also the PicVideo compression have the problem.
2) What formatting did you do on the new drive?

Full format (Fat 32, I still use "win 98 SE"
I have made a format in dos mode and one in win 98.
The drive is setup as my 2. disc as drive F: (only one partion).
Both my disc's run UDMA 5 (ATA 100)
3) Do other files read/write from the disk?
clip.
Yes, it seems to work alright. As mentioneed if I don't compres my captures it also looks alright.
Have made a benchmark test of the drive with SiSoft Sandra and it works fine. Same results as my other disc.
Have also run the 'IBM Drive fitness test' and 'IBM feature tools' without any problems.
4) Try capturing to your OS drive (just for the heck of it). Same problem?

My OS drive is a IBM GXP75 15GB with 3 partions C:, D:, E: (fat 32) and as mentioned earlier is there no problems on this disc. I have made a lot of test on all 3 partiones and everything works fine.
5) If you get SOMETHING out of your Huffy capture, you might just want to check which options you're using on Huffy (I typically use the default).

I have tried default and some other settings. Nothing get better results.
I have reinstalled Huffyuv 2.1.1 and also tried version 1.3 without any luck.

clip.
No frame drops
No scan lines problem.
Most af the frames have a lot off big gray figures all a round.
An example is the subtitles who look terrible.
It's difficult to explane, but if it could help I can make a screendump pic and mail it for you.
Thanx for your input.

I am still out af luck and desperat too.
Is there anyone who has success to capture with a Pinnacle PCTV rave using Avi_IO with the huffyua compression, then the capture file is saved on another disc, who not have the OS or the capture soft ware (Avi_IO, Virtual dub) installed???

I am puzzled by the "gray figures". I use a computer setup like yours and it works fine: I can capture with a PCTV (and other capture cards) to a secondary IBM drive using Huffyuv.
You said it happens with the second IBM drive, but not the first. Is your second drive connected to a different cable than your OS drive? If so, there could be a resource conflict in the secondary hard drive controller.
Try reducing the frame size to 160x120 and test it with Huffyuv. This will tell whether it's a bandwidth problem or a configuration problem. If the problem goes away at 160x120, it's probably a bandwidth problem; if it still occurs, there's a configuration problem. That'll help us figure it out.
The PCTV usually includes the PCLEPIXL codec. If it's listed, see if it works any better than Huffyuv. PCLEPIXL is less demanding than Huffyuv, but it's a good codec.

Thanks for the response.
I tried a friends 20 gb Maxtor disc, an everything was perfect.
Seems my IBM GXP75 is defect.
Hope I can get it replaced.
