so is it a moot point that one must use additional equipment between a VCR and dvd recorder? I've had varyng luck with Panny es20 and Toshiba dr4, and very poor luck with JVC drm100 and a Liteon. None have been keepers. I use two Panny vcrs (the newer models from 2002-3) and gold-plated (whatever) RCA cables. The dvd recorders have magnified any signal problems on a vhs (even when the problem was barely visible); the Toshiba is supposed to have a TBC in it but it still wigs out with more noticeable problems. The Panny did better on noticeable problems but flickered (in the same spots) when there was no noticeable problem on a vhs. The JVC changed the color saturation back and forth, and also flickered (a large white horizontal block) during barely visible vhs problems.
