Anyone using winxp 64 for their video stuff ? And if so was there any speed improvements over using xp pro or media center ?
New computer is in. Amd 64 3500+ and I want to get the better XP performance OS on it.
I use mostly Sony Vegas and A ADSTECH DVD Xpress for capturing.
Thanks
Mark

I doubt you will see much of an improvement with XP64 unless the software is written for a 64bit OS.
Here's one XP64 software/hardware compatibility list, though it's getting a little out of date now. You will also have to use 64bit drivers for your motherboard, so you want to check your MB site to see what is available.

For what it's worth, I use Vegas 6, Adobe CS2, Canopus Procoder 2.X (can't remember the exact version) on my 64-bit home machine. All of those, in addition to Scenarist (never use it, it was ported from our old workstations) and Avid Express, are installed on my 64-bit work machine. As redwudz said, you won't see a huge improvement in speed with the 32-bit apps on the 64-bit OS, but I have noticed a slight increase in speed. It's mostly with Canopus Procoder that I notice a speed difference. Generally, if I boot into my XP Pro box and do a PAL-->NTSC conversion, it's about 15% slower than the 64-bit box.
If I rememeber correctly, Microsoft did offer a download that expired of XP x64. I'm not sure if they still have it. If I can find the link, I'll post it for you so you can try it out. -
Best to ask that question in 2 years when 64bit is more widely supported (for the consumer environment).

I don't want to give the wrong impression about XP64. It has a lot of potential. When more mainstream video programs are rewritten to take advantage of it, there will be gains. It can make use of more RAM memory than XP32 in video applications. It can multitask better than XP32. It works well with the newer PCI-E interfaces. (All IMO)
But if I only had a copy of XP32 at present and had a new XP64 machine, I would stick with XP32 a little longer.
I also wonder about how MS VISTA will add into the mix. -
