I convert the odd divx to dvd for friends. Some have issues playing the the DVDs in thier players. Thier players will play other DVD's I've burnt but not authored so its not my burnner or disks or thier player.

I've been using TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 to author and both nero and the built in burning program to burn. any and all suggestions apreciated

TDA is about as simple as it gets for author. That is, there aren't many settings you can play with to screw it up. There is also no such thing at 100% compatability with writable DVDs. Even buying good brands does not guarantee that one disc in a spindle won't be less than the others.

Specifically what behaviour do they see when the disc doesn't work ?

it won't even recognise the disk that I've authered. If it was just an isolated incident I would have writen it off as bad media but it happens every time to the same people. DVDRs from other sources that I've burned work with out a hitch and mine dont

Nero and TDA burning engines are both known to make discs that players don't see. Try RecordNow or Prassi., both have trials.
