More and more video editing, posting, etc. is being done online. Video blogging and online video posts are getting huge. There are more and more websites and services that simplify video editing and dvd authoring. Why muck around in the morass of figuring out why your DVD won't burn or video won't compress right - There are easy alternatives out there that would satisfy 95% of video enthusiasts. This site seems to ignore them.

you seem to be ignoring this site. we answer the questions that people bring to us. if they want to "muck around" as you call it by doing file conversions and making dvd-compliant video then we assist them in doing it. If they want an "easy alternative" or information about these online services you speak of we would give it to them. If there was a big enough demand then a group would most likely be created for them. If you want to give someone easy alternatives you are free to post them here. I fail to see your point at all as it defeats itself coming back. "This site" is nothing more than a group of members (of which you are) governed by the questions that are brought to us. If something isn't being addressed that you feel should be then you can blame yourself for not posting it.
furthermore, this site aims to help people better understand the process of video editing/encoding so that they will be able to do different types of video editing in the future when they might have a special need that the one click wonders don't provide. If we handed over the easy solution every time they would be back each time any little thing was different asking the same question again. It's more beneficial to teach someone more variables than perhaps they need to know at the time rather than have to hold their hand each time anything different is needed.

I guess I'd just like to see a forum dedicated to more online video. There are tons of free post sites like www.youtube.com, www.zippyvideo.com, and www.google.com.
There is also a site that allows for simple online editing - you have upload your content, which doesn't work for a huge projects, but it is easy for little vacation or party vids: -link removed-
ps: greymalkin = you're totally right - the information on this site is excellent and encoding/ authoring/editing isn't simple. There is no easy way to do anything - but I think sometimes people over engineer and over complicate things - especiialy in tech.

Burlap, I see you are a one post "wonder" on this site. This site is dedicated to a wide range of people ranging from professionals to neophytes. They share a common interest in the many topics covered on this site. It is the best site on the web for the purpose it was created to accomplish. If you find it inappropriate for your particular needs and interests, don't waste your time here.

I guess I'll start over. Everyone's a little defensive around here! Help me find info on posting and using video online. It is becoming a large segment - whether using it on ebay, myspace etc. It deosn't seem to be on this site yet - I imagine it will eventually. That's all - sorry I offended everyone...
PS: "a One Post Wonder" sorry I don't have you pedigree

Burlap those sites you mention are really more commercial in nature. They are file hosting services mainly. The fact that you can do simple editing and transitioning is just so you have a little something to present to others. The bottom line is they are in the business of hosting your files. This type of service is nothing at all like what this website provides.
This site and forum is about sharing information, not about sharing files. Baldrick welcomes any suggestions on how to improve the site but I just don't think that's a logical service for this site to provide.

@Burlap
The sites you listed are pretty much all video hosting sites. When you edit the video you do so locally on your own machine (aka download their suite of tools or use your own) and then upload the re-done video back to the hosting site.
This site and forums contain extensive tools and topics related to your Original Post. If the sites you listed use specific tools you or others are more than welcome to upload guides on how to use them or even start topics in these forums related to those tools.

ROF - -one true spam removed- is all online - the site stores your full res video, photos and music. you then edit via their online app - no software downloads - you can work on your project from any computer - then when your happy with what you've done you can email, post it, download it or buy it as a dvd. they store your AVIs, .MOVs or DV files on their servers.
-
Again, that's just a hosting site without any editing capabilities. You can join images and videos together, create slide shows, and other misc. tools but nothing in there allows you to edit your uploaded videos or pics beyond adding borders and such. if you find their software useful or need specific info about their software you can either ask in these forums or better yet write up a guide on "How to" use their software suite. Unfortunately, it would be quite a short guide because there isn't much you can do with it and certainly no editing of your video. You may want to look at the guides or tools provided here for editing video. The guides and tools are designed for the beginner all the way up video gurus. The same can be said about the residents of these forums.

I guess that your first post would be similar to going to a recipe site and posting "Why share recipes? This site should simply provide links to good restaurants. Then you don't have to muck about with a teaspoon of this, half cup of that nonsense."

yup - it's def more about hosting photos and video - and it is commercial - but I think it is an alternative for many people who screw around with iMovie, Windows Movie Maker or those lousy Pinnacle programs.
the editing is done similar to the way the most editing programs work - referring to high res, original content, yet representing to the user as low res. it will let you download an mpeg4 for your PSP or vid Ipod - and you have to buy the DVD from them for $25 - but for 99% of people that's something theydon't know how to do. back to eating lunch.

Research shows you to be a spammer already banned once for posting about this site.
We are all now aware of you and will be keeping an eye out.
If you want to advertise on the site contact Baldrick and work something out. Companies that pose as general members only get hated by forum members.
