  1. i'm about to format my HDD and re-install XP on it.
the HDD is partitioned into 40GB and 80GB and the 8mb XP makes.
I'm unsure if i should delete the 8mb partition.
Someone told me i should but i've read it contains information about the partitions on HDD.
I only want to format the 40GB partition.
    I'm unsure what to do.
Does anyone know what to do?
    Thanks.

formatting depends on your personal preference. Unless you are a corporate user, a user that doesn't feel comfortable formatting their drives, or for some odd reason have the need to separate your system into partitions, I'd just simply delete all partitions, re-create a primary partition containing the entire drive and be done with it.

My personal choice when installing XP.

I create a 20gb partition for windows installation.
then I have a 30gb partition for just game installations.
Final 70gb partition for video editing, shrinking and music storage.

    just personal choice really

any software you install can be on any partition, the registry will be keeping track of where stuff is installed. what router software? Im not sure I understand that question. router is seperate from computer and shouldnt need any software on your computer for it to function. If your using a wireless card to access network(router) then you will need to just install drivers for that wireless card.

You will need to re-install your router software if you wish to use it on that machine. windows will setup the router based on the previous settings but the software will no longer be present on your system.

You can install games or software on any drive or partition (even networked drives) without regards to the location of the OS.
