Hi guys! At first i wana thank you for the AMAZING amount of guides and help sections at this forum. Got my DVD 2 days ago and got it working thanks to this forum.

I need help with one thing. I got an avi file, then i used WinAVI video converter to convert it into a DVD format, all worked fine, but only 1 thing is bothering me, when i play the video the picture gets smaller from upper and lower sides of the screen, i mean the heads of the charecters cant be seen sometimes cause they are covered with the black stripe and same goes to the bottom of the picture. When i play my usual avi file it doesnt appear there, i mean its fully fit for the size of my screen, but when i convert it it gets smaller (The right and left sides are ok). I changed in options to make it 16:9 and it still does the same. I hope you guys can help me out, id realy apreasiate it. And one last thing, is WinAVI the best converter there is? If there's a better one for sale idd pay for it, the quility matters to me a lot.

    Kind regards!

winavi is easy to use but far from the best. i like divxtodvd if you want a simple all-in-one solution. or use a standalone encoder like tmpgenc, mainconcept mpeg encoder, quenc where you have full control what you are doing but they arent as easy to use then.

It's the best one-step converter out there, but that's like saying that SUV is the best car out there because it can do a lot of things. Clearly, you lose something for the ease of use and lack of options.

    IMHO WinAVI is monkey crap

    DivxToDVD all the way !

Sounds to me like you're experiencing overscan (which is completely normal on CRT TVs). Do a forum seach for "overscan" or "add black bars" and you should find the answers you need.

Either that or it could possibly be some sort of strange resize / crop being done.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yeah and one more thing, how fast should the DivXtoDVD go? mines at 17 FPS and rising slightly, seem slow but what do i know, is it?

Depends on your system. How fast, how healthy, etc. Looking at your profile, if your machine is running right it shouldn't take any longer than 45 mins to an hour for a full average length movie.

DivxtoDVD can't deal with overscan. 4:3 or 16:9 won't make much of a difference. If you want to add borders, FitCD, avisynth and encoder is what you need. As advised, search for overscan or black borders to get detailed instructions - it gets discussed a lot.
