  1. MPG to DixX or Xvid via VirtualDub

My neighbor gave me 2 tvshows in MPG format. I use Virtualdub to convert to DivX. Also, I tried Xvid too. I getting an audio out of sync. It start fine and get worst near the end.

I this follow the following guide to the tee.

    https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm

The original topic was MPG to DixX or Xvid via VirtualDub. I decided to change it because it becoming a very infomative discussion on how conversion can lead to out of sync more specifically in the audio.

There has been several similar topics. I just hope everyone can learn something from this thread.

Use MPEG Tools in TMPGEnc to demux the audio from the video. Check its format, make sure it's NOT VBR. If it is, you need to reencode it with a tool like BeSweet/BeSweetGUI to CBR format.

After that, you can disable the existing audio stream in VDUB under Streams, then add in your re-encoded audio, and do a stream copy / interleave and that SHOULD solve your sync problem.

  3. I tried Avi.NET. I still get the same out syncness. It looks like I am not the only person having the similar problems. There are many thread and not a truly working solution without several steps.

The good thing, the Divx File was alot smaller.

Then I dare say it's something not 100% OK with your source...

If they start out in sync, and gradually drift out over time (rather than just suddenly drop out of sync), I'd be looking at framerate changes first.

or try "fix" the source with videoredo. then convert.
or save the audio as wav with goldwave and use in virtualdub.

How do you save to DivX from VirtualDub?
All I see is Save as AVI.. from the File menu.

    [EDIT]
Ah, nevermind, I didn't see the link to the tutorial.

The source is fine. The MPG is not out of sync. It happens from the converted file.

Doesn't mean there isn't a problem. Playback is a lot less demanding of perfection than encoding.

It's a common misconception, that playback of a media file is a way of finding if it's good for conversion or not.

I can shorta confirm that. I know that BSPlayer and WMP have produced video/audio sync, while that did not happen with VLC player, and so on. Unless you have a VERY fast computer and a perfectly setup environment, you can't guarantee that video/audio mis-sync is in the file.

  12. Thank You for all the information. I hoping to find a 1 click solution to convert files over to DivX or XviD.
