  1. i have a sony trv140e and i recently did some recording on it, anyway when i upload the movie to my pc it only comes out in 320 x 240 so when i encode it, it becomes pixelated as it obviously needs to be bigger to go onto dvd or cd.can someone help here, is there a setting on the camcorder i can use to change this or am i just using the wrong program?

Firewire is simply a data transfer. You are transferring the data stored on tape to your hard drive, so the quality of the AVI file will be the same as that on the tape. Just remember the size of the AVI will be quite large.

  5. Most DV camcorders only send low resolution (~352x288) video over USB because they have USB 1.1 ports that don't have enough bandwidth for full DV quality. You have to use firewire to get the full 720x576 digital video that's stored on the tape.
