For some reason, whether I plug my connectiong in through the router or directly into the modem (Cable modem) it says I have no default gateway. Here is an example of what it looks like.
I don't know how to resolve this issue. I was able to log on last night, but this morning it just wouldn't let me.Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : a2c9a8

Does ipconfig (no flags) show a gateway address ?
Does your router supply a gateway address ?
I get two - one from the router and the other from the ISP (running in bridging mode because it is a cheap sh*t router . . .anyway, my problem . . .no need to burden you . . wonders off muttering)Read my blog here.

You need to set up your router with DHCP.
Your IP address has been configured by APIPA (that's why it starts with 169.)
Since you have a cable modem, you might have to trick your router into acting like your network card. Some cable internet providers 'marry' the MAC address of your machine to the modem. If the internet provider didn't give you configuration information (like IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary DNS server, etc.) then it is done automatically by your internet company.
In that case, you have to change the settings of you router to match the MAC address (Ethernet NIC physical address) of you computer.
If the internet company did give you configuation information, set your router with that information and turn DHCP on on the router. -
could be your cable connection is affecting your router. check your cable company if they're having problems. go into the settings of your router to see the subnet mask,ip addy and so forth.

On my way out to work. I'll read through the post later. Just wanted everyone to know I fixed it by reading some other random site that advised turning off the DHCP services in the Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services and the restarting it. It resolved the issue for some reason.
When connecting through the router it would give me a gateway but I was still unable to reach the Internet. On my old machine, this wasn't an issue. When I connected directly to the modem, it wouldn't give me a gateway. When trying to renew my IP it would say "unable to connect to DHCP server..." or something along those lines.
I don't know why one night it would work, and the next it wouldn't. I would have never guessed to do what I did either. I may be back for more help if this is just a temporary thing...
Thanks!!SmileSmile
