  1. Why do they only record analog signals? Does Digital Cable + DVR from Cable Provider guarantee a pure Digital recording, straight from the Cable company? Or does the DVR actually have some analog conversions going on inside, before it is saved to the HD digitally?

    Currently all DVD recorders require analog sources except for those that have a Firewire DV link for connection to a DV camcorder. The cable company's digital transmissions do not meet the video DVD spec so they would need conversion anyway.
