  1. I'm converting a XviD file I have using Nero Vision 7.0.1.4, the bitrate of the video on the XviD is 1182. When converting it to DVD, should I keep the bitrate the same? Or go higher?

I can go as high as 4250, which will max out the DVD disc.

    Thanks.

The bitrate required for an mpeg is far higher than for a similar Divx or Xvid. I recommend that you max out the disk.

It also depends, to a degree, on the method and matrix the endoer uses. Some can produce OK results at lower bitrates. Some really struggle. As a general rule though, mpeg2 requires around 3 - 4 times the bitrate as mpeg4 (xvid/divx) to maintain comparable quality.

You should also be aware that the resizing up process will enhance any flaws in the original avi file (and believe me, they are there, even if you believe you can see them now). If you want to address these issues before encoding, I would suggest avisynth and a real encoder, rather than letting Nerovision do it for you.
