  1. OK, you can see my precious post and know that I recently formatted my HD and reinstalled windows. I installed Service Pack 2 also, which I haven't used before. Now when I go to a page like Ebay all the images are screwed and don't show up. I installed the latest version of Java and still nothing. Are there issues with Service Pack 2 and stuff like this? I had SP1 before and never any problems.

    G'day
A dear friend of mine had the same problem. I talled her to disable the MS firewall. She did not want to do it and called a "Computer Technician". He charged her $100.00 AU. for disabling the MS firewall.

IE has a higher level of security by default under SP2, which can cause issues with viewing some pages. You can turn much of this off, but is sort of defeats the purpose.

If widnows firewall is the only firewall you have, don't turn it off. It isn't the best firewall around, but you should not be on the net without at least minimal protection. Windows firewall is minimal protection.

My honest answer to your problem - use Firefox. It is as fast (or faster) than IE, a lot more secure, has many features that you need IE7 to get from M$, and worst case, allows you to open a page IE if FF just can't do it (usually because the page has some M$ proprietry crap in it).

  5. Thanks for the Firefox recommendation. Got service pack 2 in and Firefox running and all is well. As far as firewalls, I was using Zone Labs Security Suite. I'm going to try Windows firewall and see how it does. I may go back to Zone labs because it worked well and has spyware and virus protection rolled in.
