It seems none of any Pionneer DVD player can read DVD+R or DVD+RW.
All Pionner dvd player on market can read DVD-R and DVD-RW only.
Does anybody know why ? I think I should go with Yamaha for it seems to read everything, any suggested model ? Thanks

Even though it is not specified as such, it will read +R just as well as -R. My Pioneer is a couple of years old and has never had any trouble reading +R.

Anyone try Verbatim DVD+R DL on any of the stand alone Pioneer DVD recorders? I have the Pioneer DVR-531H-s and was thinking of buying some of the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs for computer burning then playback on the Pioneer. Yes I know the Pioneer will not record on these

    P.S.
The Verbatim DVD+R DL discs are on sale this week at BEST BUY. The sale is good from 01/08/2006 thru 01/14/2006

Here is a link to them on the BEST BUY website ---> CLICK HERE

As you can see the sale price is $19.99 for a 10 pack or approximately $2.00 each + tax

My Pioneer 220 standalone recorder can not play DUAL LAYER DVD+R. The newer models are able to. My APEX 1500 dvd player can play them. Gotta love those cheap ass APEX players that play anything you throw at it!

You quoted me before I corrected (read EDIT) my post. Now everyone will think I'm dumb for calling these DVD+RL instead of DVD+R DL

hmm.. but they can play Commercial DVD (DL) ones

Not that it's important to me at this time, but..

Since I have the 220 also, and wondering.. have you tried *other* Brand
or Make, DL disks to be certain that they don't play DL +R 's ??

(Yeah.. I agree.. our Apex AD-1500 area sweet for playing everything
I have two -- one hacked, and one not hack'able.. not to mention the
    AD-500 as well)

I'm finding more and more that incompatibilities on typically-decent players are failure to burn correctly (layer break is the most important). It can also depends on what drive you're using to burn with, Pioneer seems to be the best one (not surprising).

    I didn't even notice you wrote DVD+RL

I've only used VERBATIM DUAL LAYER DVD+R media burned with DECRYPTER.

I have the Pioneer 533H-s (same as the 531 but w/firewire input) and it does play the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, both with and without DVD-ROM bitsetting, no worries.

    That's old my friend!

I had a 606D model but my bastard ex-landlord store it from me.

Yes it's a long story LOL

My 606D would only play back CD-R discs that were Taiyo Yuden (be it music or data like a VCD) and while it was somewhat more forgiving with DVD-R I still had best luck with Taiyo Yuden and Maxell MIJ DVD-R discs.

It would not read DVD+RW but I never had a chance to try DVD+R with it.
