    might also want to check some of the utilities microsoft offers. IF the format matches a preset profile in movie maker, using movie maker it's supposed to be possible to edit & only have changes recompressed. There seem to be a lot of media center fans/users, and I believe I've seen some new tools for wmv and similar - might want to check those fan sites.

  4. Best choice is Asfbin. Since Version 1.5 it can even cut on non-keyframe positions, reencoding only the small part between cut and next keyframe. So the rest is not reencoded (unlike in moviemaker or other tools), so it is fast and preserves quality. it is a command line tool, though. If you need a GUI for asfbin, try Cut Assistant.

    Important: For cuts on non keyframe positions you need the command line option "-rkf". NOTE: if you try -rkf and asfbin gives you this error: "Decompression error: VCM decoding driver is not available", the you must install the VCM driver from here:
