  1. I am trying to configure the TV Guide function. For the last 12-15hrs it has been going through and randomly clicking through all the channels any ideas as to why this is happening? Thanks!

  2. Randomly clicking through the channels? It should be going through them sequentially. It does that while searching for the channel that carries the EPG information.

That is wrong. Reset the machine and try setting up the system again. What you are watching should not randomly change.

Are you sure the cat is not playing with the remote?

To reset the system, hold the [] Stop button on the face of the recorder (just below the DVD door) and the Standby/On for several seconds.

  7. You must have set it to control your cable box. That is a bad idea, IMO. If you tell the TV Guide setup that you have cable but no cable box, then it can use its own tuner, and it shouldn't bother you as much. It won't be able to change channels on the cable box that way, so you would have to program both the cable box and the DVR when you want to record a digital cable channel.

Many people (myself included) have decided that the EPG is more trouble than it is worth. You don't really need it, and you can use the TIMER REC button on the remote to manually set your recordings just like you would with a VCR (only much better). If you want to disable the EPG, the information for doing that has already been posted in this thread.
