I have a Hauppauge Pvr USB2 video capture device. I am trying to convert the svcd to Xvid with Winavi but I have a problem. It just doesn't work. Whenver i put in an mpg file, it would try to convert it, but before it would, it gives me some error message in a popup menu. One with tons of weird numbers. I don't know why it's like that. I'm trying to record a 6 and a half hours of video from my computer. So basically it's svideo converter from one computer, plugged into my hauppauge device and the hauppage device connected to another computer. I really don't need sound or anything. I use Wintv 2000 to record the image of my computer in svcd "long play." I want to record it in that quality, i don't like vcd quality, i can't read anything of my computer image using vcd quality. I want to be able to record 6 and half hours of svcd quality and fit it in one dvd. I think Xvid can do it. I've seen some really good qualities with xvid. I mean i saw superman the movie, a 2 and half hour movie that uses only 680 mb! Please help, THANK YOU!

  2. Try VirtualDubMPEG2 or VirtualDubMod.

Regarding WinTV2000, if you're going to convert to XVID later, consider recording at 12,000 kbps or 15,000 kbps. You'll get better quality in the end.

Well, since we can't see "one those [error messages] with weird number", we have no idea what's wrong either.

Ok, here's the thing, i recorded something from wintv2000. Winavi had the error message popup when i try to convert that recording. Then I put something else in, a music video in mpg format i downloaded. Tried to convert that to Xvid with Winavi and it worked...for the moment. The preview poped up and showed it was converting. When I played the converted item, no pictures! Only sound. This would work great in reverse because I just want pictures, no sound. Now I put in my recording in Winavi, and it appears to work with the preview and everything, but no picture and no sound (no sound in the first place). TIA...

Hey, I tried to using virtualdub 1.6.4, gave me the biggest headache. Spent hours reading thru the guides here, but one problem, Vdub didn't even read the mpg file! Well, I took your advice and used VirtualDubMPEG2, it loaded it, appeared to convert it, but when I play it, no pictures. It was playing with VLC, but no pictures. There was no sound in the first place. I used this guide right here : https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm#filters, to guide me thru converting. Please help...TIA!!!

Oh by the way, the last step in the guide:https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm#filters, where it says click video-->Filters...I skipped that step because it was not highlighted so I couldn't select it. Maybe it had something to do with the problem?
