I have DVD Shrink and I haven't noticed any problems. But is there any difference in the quality of the video between DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor (talking about 100% no compression)? Because I just got a few DVD+R DL discs and I want them to be in the best quality and I don't wanna screw em up (expensive!!)

If you talking about just ripping, then theres no quality difference. Ripping just removes the copy protection from DVDs and copies them to your Hard Drive. The ripped files are exactly the same as the original DVD.
It only when you compress, theres a quality loss.
I would recommend ripping in ISO mode with DVD Decrypter and then burning to DVD+R DL with Decrypter. -
You understand that DVD Decrypter only rips and burns - it doesn't compress. Right ?

yes i do realize that. i just didn't know if DVD Shrink affected the quality at all at no compression.

OK, another quick question. I want to make an EXACT copy (or as close to it as I can get) but DVD Shrink has these options that split the VOB files into 1 GB chunks and removes the layer break. If I want to make it exact, should I disable those options or is DVD Decrypter a better choice?

Personally, I never rip with DVD Shrink. DVD Decrypter rips more discs than shrink, rips to ISO if no further work is required, and has much better error handling than Shrink. If I need to play with the disc afterwards, I will load it into Shrink from the HDD. This process is substantially faster than ripping and compressing straight from the DVD using shrink, and puts less wear on the drive.

yeah I just got DVD Decrypter and it did a great job with the disc I just copied. Very impressed with the whole thing. Thanks again for the help.

Just be aware that neither DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter are being updated any more, so both fail on discs that use the latest Sony copy protection schemes. For that you need to have one or the other (or both) or AnyDVD (payware) or DVD Fab Decrypter (freeware), and to update them regularly.

AnyDVD is an excellent tool, updated regularly to remove newer protections like sonys arrcoss or ripguard. But it will cost you $40 though. Benefit is that it works in the background so can be used with any software.
DVDFab Decrypter on the other hand is freeware. -
The only downside to dvdfabdecrypter is you have to rip to an iso first if you plan on using dvdshrink. It can take more harddrive space if your pushed for free space. I guess anydvd lets you use dvdshrink right away without ripping it to the harddrive - which I can see the advantage of but I have plenty of space available so I use decrypter if I run into a problem.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
OK, another quick question. In DVD Decrypter there is an option in the ISO Write Mode to specify the Layer Break. Well I want the layer break to be the same as it was on the original DVD. Is this possible on DVD Decrypter? And if not than on what program is it possible (CloneDVD maybe?)
