  1. I'm looking for an external dvd writer for a buddy at work for his laptop. He has a compaq laptop and I guess the NEC internal drive he bought doesn't fit, so he's going external. I usually by NEC for my desktop and am not too familiar with the external ones. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on a good external dvd writer that also does dual layered.

Or, would it be cheaper to buy a regular writer and put it in an enclosure. Any input/suggestions is appreciated. Thanks

Did your friend buy an internal NEC(Desktop PC) writer? If so he could just buy an external enclosure to make that internal NEC drive into an external drive.

  3. Nah, it's a laptop drive that didn't fit. Thanks though. Budget is around $100. I saw a LG on newegg that seems to fit the bill for that price

  4. The Liteon 1693 is also a very good drive and it comes in external at Newegg. I have an internal and it burns almost any TY and MCC with very good results. It has the additional benefit of bitsetting, ripping, and scanning.
Still a few bugs in the system...
