I burned a few Memorex DVD-Rs (recommended by many friends) with DVDShrink and burned with Nero 6. They play fine in DVD burner (LG GWA4164B) and seem to play well in my two DVD players (Samsung HT-P38 and Sony DVP-NS50P). They problem is that they freeze for a split second in a few spots on the standalone players and they don't freeze in the PC. They also freeze in different spots on both standalones. What am I doing wrong?

You might want to look up Memorex -R DVDs to the left in 'DVD Media'. Memorex uses several different manufacturers. Some good, some not so good. <<<

If you look in 'Burn' under 'Tools' you will find some programs that can identify the manufacturer of a DVD.

I would try a different brand of DVD media. If they freeze in different spots, then that's not playing well. A PC can play about anything, even a messed up disc that a standalone player might choke on.

You might take a look at this site for some media info:

I bought some Verbatim DVD-Rs and burned them at 8x. The movie is better, but still freezes for a second in a few spots. I burn the movie only, no special features, to have the highest quality product. Would compressing with something other than DVDShrink or compressing with DVDShrink and burning ISO with something other than Nero 6 give better results?

You are probably doing nothing wrong. Your standalones are the problem. If you really are using DVD-R's then try DVD+R's instead....and you may also read up on bitsetting the +R's to DVD-ROM.

Or might try buying something like a verbatim in a jewel case -- read somewhere around here that their spindles were no better now days then anybody else's. Might also pay to check the player hardware reports here re: disc brands -- might give you some hints.

Broke down and got some Memorex DVD+R DLs. Made ISO with DVDShrink and burned with nero. It made a beautiful full backup. Watched the movie all the way through with no skips. Yay me.
