  1. Does anyone know (or used) a DVD authoring program or (and) DVD

burning program that will let me transcode an MPEG2 file in 1.85:1 or 2.35:1

format and burn it also in that ratio?

  2. It has nothing to do with 'authoring' nor burning. It is ony a matter of encoding. DVD ony allows for 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios. Everything else needs letterboxing.
More or less all authoring/burning programs as well as encoders support anamorphic encoding. It is only your problem to do it correctly.

You need to encode it correctly, then author it as 16:9. Burning has nothing to do with aspect ratios.

If you material is < 1.78 it should be displayed 4:3, possibly with letterboxing. If it is > 1.78 then it can be displayed 16:9, with letterboxing. If it is 1.78 then you can just encode it 16:9 without letterboxing.

What is your source material (format, resolution etc.) ?
    What is your encoder ?

If you have avi and want it simple, DivxtoDVD is easy, can do 16:9, and the payware version even burns for you.
