    There are several DV timecode programs in 'Tools'. You might see if one of those will work for you. https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=33#33

    If you're talking about the Date/Time that the file is created, then no it won't come from the cam. There is no file on the cam tape, there's just the data in lightly compressed format. When you capsfer to the computer the data is transferred as a stream and the computer captures it into a file.

    If your camera supports it (which I think it does), the date/time WILL be encoded in a "user data" stream multiplexed along with the video+audio data streams that reside on the DV tape. This is not visible, but it's there.
    This WILL transfer over to DV-AVI files on the HD, unless the tranfer software actually works at trying to strip the user data out. I doubt that, because this will put an extra burden on the software, making it possible for the incoming stream to become corrupted because of CPU/Bus sync problems. That's assuming it's getting captured as DV.
    Ulead DVDMF can cap and encode directly to MPEG2 (for DVD) also. If this is what you're doing, of course the date/time won't be there. There isn't really a field available for that in the MPEG format (talking practically, not what's feasible).
    The date/time feature must still be retained w/in Ulead DVDMF for DV files, 'cuz it uses this as part of it's "create clips from date/time breaks" feature.

    What do you want to do with the date/time, show it? If so, use one of the other tools listed in the Tools section to decode and show DT and create a copy of the clip with the D/T burned onto the picture. Then use that as the source from w/in Ulead DVDMF.

    edit: you didn't say, but I also assumed that you were using firewire to transfer into the computer, not using an analog cap card. Analog cap cards WOULD strip out/ignore everything but the Audio+Video.

    ok...im not sure you totaly understand my problem.

    I mean the date and time that i can see in the cam. you know the one for an example: 2005.12.24 7:15

    do I need a special program before i capture the film from the cam to the computer? and can i still capture with Ulead DVD Moviefatory?

    I'm not sure you understand the responses.
    The Date/Time you see in the viewfinder of the cam is contained within the data stream in the form of a timecode as explained above. I believe some cams have the ability to have the Date/Time displayed in the video while recording, but this is something that you need to enable iin the cam and the procedure is camera specific.

    Allow me please to grab this chance to bring up another issue here aiming to reach exactly the opposite effect that "woodster" wants to reach. This is actually my first post and please forgive my being a newbie. I just want to get rid of the Date/Time as seen in the captured video from my camcorder. I already tried ways and means to deactivate it from the camcorder before capture, but to no avail. I think once activated during recording, it would already be integrated in the video and seen every playback. Is there a way to remove it from the captured video? Thanks so much for any help.

    As this is only data in a DV camera, you should be able to turn it off from within the camera. I would keep trying that avenue as it is the best way to do it. Once it gets to the PC, if the date and time are visible then the only solutions are ;

    1. Crop and resize - ugly, but at least it is gone

    2. Search the forums for the logoaway filter for virtualdub. This will try to replace the date and time with an average of surrounding pixels. You usually end up with a simmering blur instead of the text. Might not be an improvement.

    Thanks for the swift reply. I just want to note here that the Sony camcorder that I have is an analog one and not DV. Would you think that it is still possible to do that?

    Date/time stamping is a feature on some cameras & camcorders intended for stuff like documenting inventories, or simply so grandma can tell which trip to the beach with the grandkids she's watching. And in every product I've ever heard of you can turn it off -- it's an extra feature or option separate from the normal display in the viewfinder or lcd.

    If it is an analogue camera then the date/time stamp is embedded in the image and there is no way to turn it off after the fact. This is a feature built into DV cameras only. Analogue doesn't store this information, it just superimposes it as it's shot.
