You can use any graphics program that you are familiar with. All you are doing is printing a page that is X wide and Y high. Just measure the particular case and set the image size accordingly. This isn't a case of "which program" to use. It's a case of learning some very basic understanding of one of many programs to use. Adobe Photoshop is a great graphics program but it takes some effort to learn. But if a person isn't willing / able to take the time to learn to use it, it will just sit on the shelf unused because it doesn't just jump out the box like some magic genie and magically turn you into a graphics designer.

I could not live without Photoshop, it's awesome for graphics. That being said, it's also not cheap, $300 on sale. But you might also check out Photoshop Elements, a rather stripped-down but very usable version of Photoshop, you can find it on sale for $50-ish.

But though I use Photoshop for pretty much any "heavy-duty" graphics work, for doing disc labels and case stuff I also recommend Sure Thing labeler, it'll do lots of simple stuff right out of the box. And sure you can do anything with Photoshop with a little time and effort, there are certainly times it's nice to have a template for a certain paper type or label type ready-to-go. Also a very (to me) useful feature of Sure Thing -- it'll read the CD-TEXT info from CDs, meaning it can automatically pull (some) discs title and track info from the disc and add it as text to your label.

For DVD production that might not be a critical feature but I love that I can make CDs and pop 'em in and the case label is pretty much done instantly. I don't always do "serious graphic work" when making labels (especially if I'm doing a bunch, and really just need data-type labels so I know what's on a disc), and Sure Thing is great for that.

If you have Nero, then you already have Nero Cover Designer, too. You can use that to make a custom slimline template.

    A. Under File, choose Paper Stocks.

    1. Click on User-defined Stocks,

    2. click Add Stock.

    B.

    1. Select Stock 1 on the left,

    2. rename it in the Name box to Slimline DVD case,

    3. change Portrait to Landscape,

    4. Click the Add Item button, and select DVD Case Inlay from the drop-down menu.

    5. Change the Width to 262.000 mm and the Height to 184.000 mm.

    C.

    1. Click on DVD Case Inlay on the left.

    2. Change the Width to 262.000 mm and the Height to 184.000 mm.

    3. Change the spine width down to 1mm (that's as low as it goes).

A standard DVD case is 273 mm wide. Subtract from that the 12 mm eliminated by removing the spine, but add the 1 mm Nero Cover Designer won't let you go below, and the result is a slimline DVD case 262 mm wide.

Or, if you prefer, here is the template I made. You can download it and install it in Nero Cover Designer by choosing File, Paper Stocks, then Import. It should show up the next time you open Nero Cover Designer when you choose to make a DVD, click on the DVD Inlay tab in the bottom left, then choose it from the drop-down menu at the top right.

Print in landscape mode. I usually use legal (8½"x17") paper.

    Enjoy!

  8. I haven't seen a perfect cover design (print wise) try Stomper cover designer it is better than others. Nero is ok but it opens a groups of templates set and one may print by mistake.

I use a program called 'Ant Movie Catalog' it is a movie manager.

You have the option to print covers for CD Jewel Cases, CD Slim, DVD, DVD Slim cases, etc.

You have the option to edit the templates and create new ones.

    It is freeware no spyware.

Give it a try, it is very easy to use.

To avoid this, under the Elements tab just uncheck the ones you don't want to print.

Use a ruler, measure it. GO into the graphics program, make it the same size. Then drag guide marks to the spine edges.

I do it in Photoshop, have for many years now.

If you want to make it in Nero Cover Designer, follow the instructions in my post above, except in step C.3. set the Spine width to whatever you measured your spine to be, usually about 20 mm.

Or if you prefer, here's my template you can import and use, also following the instructions above, in my earlier post:
