I'm trying to convert a video file that has two audio tracks, i don't mean stereo i mean it has 2 languages on separate audio tracks. When i play it through any media player or the preview on my video converter it comes through as english but when i convert through anything, it uses the chinese audio track. I need a program that allows me to choose which audio track i would like to use when i convert. The file is an Xvid avi, audio is in mp3. Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers.

The question is... WHAT did you use to convert?

If it doesn't give you a choice to choose, then that program is defective / limited and does NOT suit your needs.

One possible way to bypass it is to demux the 2 audio tracks from the the video file and once you have the video converted remux the audio (one or both) with the new video file, but that would depend on what format you render into.

The actual question was which program could i use that would allow me to choose, also you can clearly see in the screenshot above that i'm using Xilisoft video converter but the same problem occurs with many others i have...my question is, incase it's not clear: Which program allows me to convert from xvid avi to anything like mpg1, mpg2, xvid again, divx, whatever...as long as it allows me to choose which audio track i want to use

You can use VirtualDubMod. Go to Streams and select Streamlist. You can see all the audio track. Highlight the audio track you don't want and click disable. Go to Video and select direct stream copy. Go to File and select Save as avi.

TMPGEnc will encode your Xvid file to MPEG1 or 2.

If you want to view on your PC, then use Media Classic Player or VLC player. You can choose the audio track you want to listen.

Thanks pchan, I was using VirtualDub to do it the same way but was having terrible sync problems, not all the way through, some parts were more messed up than others, it was very annoying, your method worked fine though. Thanks a lot.
