I've used the patch method with IfoEdit a few times but lately it hasnt been working. Has anyone used a program that does it for them?
    Thanks

Have you tried searching ? This is probably close to the most popular question, and there are a dozen posts a week covering it. I'll start you off - search for DGPulldown posts and go from there.

For best results, buy a cheap, multi-format DVD player and don't waste your time converting.

It usually works for me. You can try searching the forums, or search the guides, or search the tools section. Each will find you different angles on the same issues.

Tools is probably the easiest to start with. You can search by conversion type, get a list of tools to assit, see what others think of those tools, and get a pretty good list of guides for using them, all in one go.

AVI2DVD works well, it automates the rather lengthy process of converting frame-rates, adjusting audio speed & reencoding etc - which is probably the "correct" way of doing this. Although, DGPulldown is another method I haven't tried, and keeps the original duration (no slowing down or speeding up). I'm not sure how "universally compatible" this is, though. I believe the IfoEdit "patch method" you tried is not 100% compliant, might work for you but not the next person.
