What is the difference? JVC website has little information on them, and it looks like the features are the same, except for Optical Output on the M10S.

I think I have read (knock on wood) that the DR-M100S is the newer of the two models and that it is not plauged by the "loading" issue whereas at least some DR-M10S units were affected by the "loading" issue.

Again I am no JVC expert ... for that you need LordSmurf or gshelley61.

However, again from what I have read, the JVC stand alone DVD recorders do NOT have adjustable IRE inputs and supposedly do produce an image that is ever-so-slightly lighter than the original but not enough so for people to say it has the NTSC "black level bug".

I have a Pioneer stand alone DVD recorder (model DVR-531H-s) and it does have adjusting 0.0 and 7.5 IRE BLACK input adjustments and overall I am very happy with the unit BUT it does not have the "filtering" ability that the JVC has which seems to give the JVC an "edge" when it comes to less-than-steller quality sources ... like VHS videotapes.

The Pioneer does feature some adjustable "noise reduction" options but I find they just introduce some really "strange" looking artifacts so I keep them "down" all the way (meaning not "on").

I have been happy with the few VHS to DVD I have done with the Pioneer but I have a feeling that the JVC is probably better for such source material. When it comes to a "clean" signal (like cable TV) then the Pioneer looks really good.
